Academic Perspective: A Online News and Editorial Magazine Written by CHS Students

Columbia High School has an award-winning newspaper, the Columbian. However, the Columbian covers strictly school-related issues. When several CHS students decided they wanted to write about more, like politics, economics, social interaction, and other important issues, they set out to create the opportunity for themselves. Editor-in-Chief Ben Drucker, along with Managing Editors Ben Donald and Seth Wolin, began working on Academic Perspective in early October. There is no CHS staff advisor or teacher participation whatsoever at Academic Perspective. It is run solely by students. The editors recruited a staff over over 10 top writers from Columbia, set deadlines, and prepared to make the site public.

After close to 3 weeks of hard worked, the site was launched on October 18th. Since then, Academic Perspective has been a huge success. In the two weeks since its launch, it's had over 1,500 visits from 33 countries and 40 U.S. states and just under 6,000 page-views. More than 100 people have commented on the 12 articles posted so far, over 100 call themselves fans on Facebook, and nearly 1000 people follow the publication on Twitter.

Academic Perspective has covered everything so far from the financial crisis to Obama to the changing role of English in our world. It is currently publishing articles daily. Academic Perspective's goal is to create a community where students and adults alike can discuss the major issues that face us today. Help them achieve that goal. Stop by and maybe leave a comment.
