1997 | 1998 | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 | 2002 | 2003 | 2004 valley street days i lived in maplewood for years on valley street. i went to tuscan school, maplewood middle and columbia high. i worked at the maplewood movie theater and the bank. my mom bowled on a league and did all the pta stuff for us kiddies, bobby, jan, glenn an me chriss. my dad was in the lions club and owned his plumbing business in jersey city (dowling plumbing). i could write forever believe, i wish i could just be there!! be back in those days. that was my true life. i had a total blast at the theater!!! what excellent people and what good, funny times, romances and popcorn fights and as long as we cleaned it up before sweet ol mr. brooks got wind of it and cruised through with that magic carpet sweeper. steve m., arlo, patty, alicia, helen, jan, vilma, gerry, mr cyren, richard,, larry, bronco, gotta go for now chrisstiana dowlin tumax - November 16th, 2007 at 11:21am I was talking with a co-worker who lives in Maplewood and it was nice to hear how much they like living there. I grew up on East Cedar Lane, went to Jefferson, MJH and CHS class of 78. I have a lot of great memories of Maplewood Ann & Hy's (Betty & Bob's ) candy store when bubble gum was a penny. Summer block parties, wiffle ball games in the street the community pool. All the best to all that live in such a great town. Nice to see the Guestbook getting some posts again. I'm starting my 20th year teaching Chemistry, funny for someone who barely attended High School.So kids stay in school or you may pay the price later on like I did! We finally made it to sunny Florida, and we are loving it! We watched the fireworks from my dad's 18th floor condo overlooking Sarasota Bay, but, as great as that "seat" was, it still didn't compare to those great 4th of July's in Maplewood!! Sue Hunter Chynoweth - July 21st, 2007 at 10:50pm 4th of July I tripped onto this site by accident and reading some of the postings has really made me nostalgic for my home town. I grew up in Maplewood and we lived on Hickory Dr from 1960 to 1990. There are too many wonderful memories to list. However every year around this time I think of how much I enjoyed Maplewood's 4th of July celebration. I've been around but still haven't experienced one to match. I remember one year my Dad went around selling 4th of July tickets, remember those red firecracker tickets with the string on them? I also recall it took the town a week or so to set up all those green bleachers around Memorial field. I loved the morning gun salute, the field events and the afternoon circus & acrobats. Of course the evening fireworks show was the best part. They used to shoot them off between Nelson's Garage and the Police station.(I always wondered how safe it was shooting fireworks off right next to a gas station!) We used to ride down there the next day on our bikes to look for spent firework casings. Well anyway best wishes to all my old Maplewood friends and neighbors, hope you are all well! Ron Spain - June 26th, 2007 at 10:03am Its been a while Its been over a year since I last signed and alot has happend but one thing hasn't...Im still living in south florida an I like it hell been here since 94..I have always made it a point to drive back to maplewood every year...Last time was hummm summer 2002..Havent been up there since then...But as always I plan on commin back for a week or two.I know there has been changes..Hopefully not too many but after all the time I spent wanting to leave now I can't wait to get back..Life is funny sometimes everybody take care and remember the rest of the world aint like us an thats what I found out since I've been here we are the chosen few to be able to come from here !!! We were in MMS together and I was her nemesis, then high school came and we were friends. I left for Canada then moved back to New Jersey. We came together in the funniest way, but I joined the Navy, and became a Sailor. I was not faithful, to break it off was the most honorable thing to do, but a man will never forget about his first love, I say love because losing your virginity is not love. Krys, was my first love and she is always in my heart, but I know after 15 years I have moved on and she has moved on. If anyone still talks to her let her know that I am safe, and that I would like to here her voice. We will never get closure, but a friendship harder. Anyway...just wanted to let anyone know that I will finally be heading south to the Port Charlotte area of Florida this summer. Would love to hear from any Columbia grads in that area! This is a wonderful family, that suffered great loss, too early when their dad passed away when we were all still kids. Scott was taken away, too early, as well. I am so sorry, Susan. I love this town, and the patiotism for our Country, was learned early. Parades, 4th of July, Scouts, these were defining moments for me. My son, who is currently in Iraq, fighting for our freedom, makes me proud. I want to thank my neighbors and townspeople, for continuing to support our troops. No matter what that actress says.. She seems to think you have given enough.. Well, when is it enough? we are still at War, last I heard. My son, Alex, is with the 101st Airborne, and has completed 1, and preparing for another tour of duty in Iraq. Christine Ebersole mentioned o The View, today, tha she lives in Maplewood, and the town has contributed quite a bit for the troops.. I grew up here. I remember the Patriotic holidays were always special. Thank you for keeping that alive. Go Bless our Troops. amy sausnock - February 9th, 2007 at 10:40pm Columbia high I was watching the View, today, and Christine Ebersole was on. I had no idea she lived in Maplewood. I grew up here, and left in 1978. But, I am proud of where I grew up. She was talking about the high school needing a new dance floor...I didn't know we ever HAD a dance floor.. Anyway. I was excited to hear my old home town mentioned. She also went on to say she was performing there, to help raise money for the floor. I am a great supporter of the arts. HOWEVER.. she went on about how the Village of Maplewood has "already spent" a large amount of money on the Iraqi War. As if this was not AS important as a new dance floor for the school. My son is a soldier who has just returned from his 1st tour in Iraq, and is preparing for his 2nd in July. I am proud of my son, his brothers and this Country. I remember Maplewood as a patriotic town. I am so thankful to those of you that support our soldiers. As for comparing the need for a dance floor, to the amount of money "ALREADY SPENT" to support our soldier's and the state of our nation???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Ms. Ebersole, you are entitled to your opinion, of course, and I love the View, but do me a favor?? Don't make such a comparison, on national televison, and make it sound like it is almost a "crime" to support a war that protects ALL AMERICANS. Thanks to my son, and all of our Heroe's ,we get to sleep, peacefully, each and every night. And, thanks to them, you have the freedom to perform, and raise money for my old Alma Matar.
