Maplewood was a great town to grow up in! Looking back, it reminds me of Mayberry RFD. I attended Clinton school, SOJH, and Columbia class of '76. Since college, I moved to Alaska where I pursued my dream of the frontier and living closer to the edge but my mind still wanders back to Maplewood when I think of home.

It's ben a number of years since I last visited but it seemed pretty much like I last left it. Mr C is still the best soccer coach in the world and Maplewood village still captures my childhood imagination. It had the 5 and 10 store with the horse ride in front, the hardware store with the smell of wood and of course Pearson's Mill not too far away. Maplewood village is still the greatest and you might pause and appreciate it for the way it brings your community together.

I look forward to my future in Alaska but I will always treasure my Maplewood roots.

Hello. I grew up in Maplewood from 1972-89 and '94-96. Went to Tuscan, Maplewood Middle, Columbia. I remember singing the "Hallelujah Chorus" in Town Hall, dancing for the cast of "Sarafina," the band competition when Dunia called "Attention" and Dan called "Mark Time," and running through the sprinklers on the golf course (being chased off by the Green Hornet). I so took this place for granted during my misfit girlhood. Oh well, I'm a happily married newspaper editor now, and Maplewood is as beautiful as ever. Dave Lieb, Tom Rowan, Marya Burke, Chris Adinaro -- I hope you're all well and happy.

I didn't grow up in Maplewood but have lived here 15 years. I am thrilled that my children are able to grow up in such a wonderful neighborhood. I noticed that many messages in the Guest Book relate to trying to connect with old classmates. there is a great website - classmates.com that might be valuable in your search for lost classmates. Good Luck - John

No one ever really leaves Maplewood. How can you when you were part of Clinton School, South Orange Jr. High, and Columbia? Grunings, the football games, the Sweet 16 parties, the neighborhood, friends, and of course- WHO COULD EVER FORGET THE TEACHERS? Yes Ed, I remember your Dad. Mr. Reuther fixed a broken heel on my shoe one day. He asked me if me name was Lucille(LooseHeel)!!!! Thanks for the memories.

me flamboyant/him stern and conservative. I thought I almost killed him right there in class. I drew a circular house, with no interior doors........hanging beads mind you (very "in" at the time) and he got sooooooo mad (no doors on the bathroom either) I reduced him to sputtering...and he just walked into his office and sat down. Mumbling something about why women shouldn't be allowed near a draft table! LOL!

Well Ed, there is a God. Fast forward 30 something years later.....

Your father made a profound impact on my life.

I am a RE Developer here in the Bay Area. I have designed almost all of my projects, and when I don't, I am the lead designer that works w/the Architects. I am self-taught on CAD, and I have been nominated to win an award for a house I designed called "WindRiver House". Yes, it's bizarre (of course), but very beautiful. There is an artificial river running thru the house, (and foundations!) and licensed/seasoned Architects ooh and ahh over it. The bathrooms do have doors. I've had to compromise something!

I don't know if your dad is alive or not, but he had a profound impact on my life....obviously. He was very "forward thinking" for his time...allowing a "girl" to enter his very macho den (sometimes I think he had second thoughts) but non the less, my love of designing spaces, figuring out how things work, are directly because of this man.

He taught me how to see in 3D. I took a drafting clas w/engineers 11 years ago, again the only women.......and again laboring over widgets......the week we were let loose to create the object in 3D from one view.....all of the guys..just were stuck. I aced the class. Thanks to your dad. Also, I aced handwriting because he would become infuritaed if it wasn't just so.....

Wow.

I was just talking about him the other night at Starbuck's. About the beads...etc.....

I hope this story touches your life somehow, becuase your dad deffinitely touched mine.

Warmly,
Alexandra Dorian

About Mr. Reuters from SOJH! Oh my God! Mr Reuters! I have the best story about him. With a wonderful ending. I was the 1st female in his drafting class. Walked-out/Sat in...etc.....whatever. Fought w/Mr. Parr...gave him all this feminist babble...out of sheer misery, he let me in. Mr. Reuters was willing to give me a try. I drove him nuts. I wanted to design buildings/rooms, he was trying to get me to draft

Each time upon entering Maplewood Online's Guest Book, I'm amazed at the lack of activity at a site that is very unique, as is the community that it represents. I must also include the chat page, which for some unknown reason also suffers from the same condition known as lack of use. Having moved from town only a short time ago, depending on Maplewood On-Line for information right now is not an option, guess we'll have to depend on the News-Record on-line source for that. But miracles do happen, so let's see what happens in the future. Maplewood, as always, does rise to meet any challange.

Finally, reconection with my home town. I received this information about this site today from Larry Stone, one of my best friends when we lived in Maplewood in the 50's. We graduated from CHS,1960 and have kept in touch all these years. I used to live on Ridgewood Terrace (13)across the street from Sue Denman, what fine memories! In the "site" I haven't found anything about Boy Scout Troop 2. Is it still together? Growing up in Maplewood was great. Going to "Grunnings" or up to Don's drive in or Curly's in the village. My two brothers (Russ & Bob)and I all worked at the Maplewood Theatre. Maplewood, what great memories, thanks for the guestbook!

Hi Maplewood - This is a great website - Haven't been back to Maplewood since my mother's death 11 years ago, but I still have nostalgia for the town. After growing up in Maplewood, and my father being the judge here when he was killed in an Airline Accident in 1958, I still vividly remember many of the good times we had. My brother, Grant, and my sister, Holly, still reminise quite frequently about all the good friends and times we enjoyed here. After retiring as an Airline Captain, I have continued to reside in Texas, which has been my home for the last 30 years. I still think about Maplewood quite often, and miss the friends, experiences, and the delightful setting of the town. Thank you for providing a wonderful website for all of us to enjoy.

Really nice Web site! Thanks to Peter Powers for letting me know about it. I actually grew up in South Orange (Vose Ave), and graduated in the CHS class of '67. There were 2 'jeff williams' in that class; I'm the one from stage crew, Cheudreuts band, beer bashes, etc. I moved to CA in '68. Haven't been back to NJ since 1970 or so, and quickly lost touch with most NJ friends after that, having only recently reconnected with a few of them (via the wonders of the Internet, mostly). Found a few familiar names among this site's CHS grads lists, though, and will no doubt get in touch. Still wondering whatever happened to Rise Blumenschein, Jamie Coughlin, Randee and Lauri Getz, Larry Curcio (all CHS grads from '67, '68, or '69) or really any of the other folks I hung out with back then (can't remember all the names - too many beer bashes, I guess). Can anybody help out?
