Would love to hear from some of my old classmates. Adelay (Bopp) Idler <pidler@earthlink.net> Elk Grove, Ca USA - Friday, September 13, 2002 at 11:38:31 (EDT) Live on Summit Ave from birth (1945) till college years (1965). Fielding, SOJH and CHS (class 1963). My father started the local Chrysler-Plymouth dealer on Valley Steet (Tenent-Robinson). I remember helping with the christmas model railroad displays in the showroom. My dad made his employees bring foster kids from somewhere in Irvington to see the display and have a big dinner. I was in school at Fielding when the tire building caught fire. My dad started a stock brokerage firm in 1955 called Parker, Robinson & Kristeller. He sold the C-P dealership to Wigder in 1956. Instead of growing up as a showroom brat (loved the cars), I became a boardroom brat (not as much fun). Wound up making a career on Wall Street anyway. I used to walk to SOJH along the RR tracks every day, usually taking the time to flatten some pennies under the trains. So many memories. Glad to see my class trying to do a 50 year reunion. I'll be there. Bill Bill Robinson <bdatabill@aol.com> Franklin, NC USA - Monday, September 09, 2002 at 11:29:29 (EDT) Hello ! Sue Hunter-Chynoweth 1970 <luckystr52@aol.com> York, PA USA - Sunday, September 01, 2002 at 00:10:28 (EDT) RE: BROWN FAMILY INFORMATION I am looking for someone from the Durand-Hedden House. (local Historical society?) We are taking a trip to your town this weekend. My family (BROWN and BALL) originally comes from the Maplewood/South Orange area, being one of the first settlers there. I was wondering if you had any further information about our BROWN family. My (x8)grandfather John Brown(e) lived in South Orange in around 1667. All of my grandparents lived in this area til the late 1800's when my great grandfather left Orange for Holyoke, Massachusetts. The line went: John Brown(e) his son Joseph his son Joseph his son Job his son Job his son Aaron (I am named after his wife Dorcas) his son John Smith his son John Newton (who moved to Holyoke) his son Wilford Chapman his son Donald Freeman, who is my 93year old father. He is very interested in family history, and we are taking the trip to Maplewood/Orange THIS weekend. I JUST found your website, so have given little time for planning. We will be staying at Les Saisons Saturday, August 10th through Monday Aug 12. My father is quite active (a retired Prof. of Anthropology). He plans to walk through both villages, and to visit this old cemetaries listed in his genealogy. Any help would be appreciated! My brother Bob and I both attended Maplewood Junior High and eventually graduated from CHS (myself in 65 and Bob in 66). I remember those 4th of July celebrations! The cannon waking us up early, the high wire acts, the gound displays. I remember pick up baseball games in the park on hot summer days. The Good Humor truck with the cold treats. Life was certainly a lot simpler then. I now live in Montana where I am the Assistant Director of Public Safety for the City of Bozeman. I retired as the Assistant Chief of Police here before that. Time does fly. Hope to pass through my old home town this summer. If anyone would like to chat, email me. Bill Kayser <umgrizzlies@aol.com> Bozeman, MT USA - Monday, July 08, 2002 at 18:15:38 (EDT) I HAVE BEEN GOING THRU THE OTHER MESSAGES ON THIS SITE. I REMEMBER WHEN MY DAD, DON MANN , WAS IN CHARGE OF THE 4TH CELEBRATIONS FOR 2 YEARS. I MUST HAVE BEEN 10 OR 11 HE HAD THE RACES IN THE EARLY MORNING, THE CIRCUS IN THE AFTERNOON (SO HOT AND HUMID BY 3), AND THE CONCERTS AND FIREWORKS. THE WHOLE TOWN WALKED TO THE PARK. IT WAS SO COOL. I GRADUATED IN '76, AND MOVED TO COLORADO, AFTER A YEAR OF COLLEGE IN N.H. I NOW LIVE IN AZ, BUT, I HAVE FAMILY IN MAPLEWOOD, STILL. I LOVE TO VISIT, AND I REMEMBER,WE HAD A CRAB-APPLE GROVE ( WE CALLED "THE WOODS") BEHIND OUR HOUSE ON NORTH TERRACE, THAT RAN ALL THE WAY UP TO PROSPECT STREET. THAT WAS THE BEST. WHAT ADVENTURES WE WOULD HAVE. NOW, I UNDERSTAND, IT'S A CUL DE SAC. WHAT A PITTY. ANYWAY, IF ANY OF YOU OUT THERE REMEMBER US, THE MANN'S, PLEASE E MAIL ME. I REMEMBER THE FLYNNS'S, WASSERMAN'S, FOLEY'S, SHEA'S, MILLER'S AND SO MANY MORE. amy mann <toprack1981@cox.net> USA - Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 15:18:08 (EDT) hey, maplewood was the best place to grow up. ice skating at maplewood park, 4th of july races and fireworks. we lived there on north terrace, from 1962-78. i remember cutting thru the yards to go to the candy store on valley street with the flynn's, in the dark, and not even worrying about it. hanging out in maplewood village, and the dances on fri. night at the high school. even the fights behind the library. walking thru the park to get to jr. high was fun. i now live in phoenix, az. where there are NO neighborhoods, and no walking anywhere alone, let alone, in the dark. times have surely changed. we are blessed to be able to call maplewood our home. i graduated in 76, so if any of you are listening, it's good to be home. amy mann <toprack1981@cox.net> phoenix, az USA - Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 14:56:58 (EDT) I grew up at 99 Plymouth Ave. Maplecrest Park was right down my street and Oh what a fun time we used to have there. Ice Skating all winter for a tag that cost a quarter, watching by brother play baseball (no girls allowed then), scavaging for returnable bottles and heading to the candy store for an exchange. Red string licorice and pistachios were my favorites. Where is Mr. Denk now. A few years ago my sister and I were compelled to return, drive around, lunch in the village, and visit Tuscan School. They have added a cafeteria. In my day we walked home for lunch and returned. Ah what memories I have of growing up in such a lovely town. My family moved me when I was 14. Now more than 30 years later I find myself searching this website. And I still think Maplewood is grand. He was our unsung hero as he constructeds sets of more and more complexity for each show. My particular favorite was one for "THE RED MILL" when he built a working large windmill on the stage at SOJHS. It was big enough for several of the characters to stand on the middle level! He was a good teacher too; tough but FAIR!!! He was a good friend. G. H.
