From the Photographer:
In 2007, my first summer as a Maplewood resident, I spent Labor Day under the diving platforms at the pool shooting up as bodies jumped and sailed and floated against a perfect blue cloudless sky. Later in the year I edited the images into a video which lives on my web site (http://www.langephoto.com/video_flyingkids.html). Now as the summer ends, I get more and more sad that the pool is closing, the days are getting shorter, and the magic light of summer is fading away. These pictures let me hold onto a bit of summer. These images were inspired by a teacher of mine at RISD, Aaron Siskind, who shot bodies suspended in air in the mid 1950s.

UPDATE:
Hail the power of online pro-activism! I was taking pictures at the pool this year, when one of the lifeguards said parents had been complaining that a strange photographer was photographing their kids. Didn't want to be a stranger to anyone. After posting a video of what I was doing on Maplewood Online, suddenly everyone was so incredibly friendly and supportive! Thanks for all the great dives and falls and splashes onto my lens. Here are the newest images from the last days at the pool, 2009 in an updated video.
