Dietary change makes the stuff unusable.

Since the box on Springfield Ave is no longer an option, where can I bring it without a long drive.

Maplewood operates its primary food distribution and assistance programs through the Maplewood Health Department and Community Support Center located at 129 Boyden Avenue. This indoor center hosts the Community Food Access + program, which replaced the outdoor community fridge and offers reliable grocery distribution in partnership with the United Community Corporation

You should check with the Maplewood Health Department for current requirements on what can be donated and where to bring it.  Last time i researched this, food donations needed to be brought to UCC's location in Newark.  There was also the possibility of home pick-up.  Requirements on what can be donated have also changed from what was accepted at the Community Fridge when it was on Springfield Avenue.

If/when you have other things to give away besides the stuff that is being picked up for West Orange pantry the Elks has a small pantry that I went to. Right out side in the driveway. And Our Lady of Sorrows has a pantry with either the side door or entrance always open.

The donation ability at Boyden is cumbersome and you're confined to their hours. I've looked into it. Pantries are the way to go. When I find the post I put on FB I'll share here.

This is what I wrote in the Community Gifting site and 2 helpful responses:

Below items dropped off at the Elks pantry. I appreciate the moderators allowing these suggestions in this instance given that I specifically bemoaned the lack of the community frig in my original post below.

Food items to give (this is when I miss the community frig - I think one can drop off at during the hours of the two days folks go to Boyden but keep forgetting and for those who work outside the home it's impossible):

There is a little free food pantry by the Elks on prospect. No fridge but you can drop non-perishables there anytime

You can also drop off non expired and non perishable items to Our Lady of Sorrows food pantry. Through the side door on 4th street to the left. Or in the main entrance.

  • Wendy Lauter ·Good to know that Katie. I did just drop off at Elks. I assume Sorrows entries on side door or in the main entrance are always open?

  • Katie Nguyen ·I’m not sure the side entrance is open but the main entrance should be.

Thanks, all.   The items were picked up yesterday.
